:"We will not tolerate the double standard. What is deemed disrespect and a breach of the code of conduct for the grassroots Leaders of SNAP is called "justifiable" for the Board of Directors and the Executive Director. This will not stand"
It truly did start in Texas when Leader concerns were ignored by President of the Board of Directors, Shaun Dougherty, who made several appointments to meet with a small group of leaders but cancelled at the last minute each time.
Leaders in SNAP expressed serious concerns at the 2024 Houston Conference, noting deviations from usual protocols including the absence of essential support group meetings and a quiet room for survivors. These leaders saw inappropriate behavior by at least one Board member, including providing alcohol to attendees and appearing intoxicated and belligerent. Additionally, attendees faced verbal chastisement for not participating in bar events, raising further discomfort among members. This was particularly troubling given the organization's focus on helping members survive and thrive after suffering sexual abuse. Maintaining sobriety and fighting other addictive behaviors is inherent in SNAP's arsenal of tools to help members.
Attempts to discuss these issues with SNAP President Shaun Dougherty were unsuccessful as scheduled meetings were canceled last minute.
